Today 13th of September 2010 was the first and last of my 3D lessons for my first week. We spent the day doing research, coming up with loose concepts and looking for things to build upon. It took allot longer than it should have, but I finally came up with a starting point at the end of the lesson, I’m finding that it is leading my thought process in the right direction. The theme of this 6 week project is negative and positive. I have chosen to concentrate on the concept of negative and positive space. In this context, the positive space being that which is used and the negative being the empty. I had the idea of making, the often over looked, negative space the focus of my attention. This is what I came up with.
I drew an abstract image on a page in my sketch book and rendered it with different shades of black and gray. This is going to represent the negative space. Next I added some positive space to complete the effect.
This is the final outcome of my experiment. All of the focus has been paced on the negative space (the wholes in the paper). By making the positive space as plain as possible buy keeping the neutral white and using strait lies, it both contrasts with the background image and (in a sense) turns the positive space into the negative space. The only part of the design being used is the negative space that the audience is viewing.
To expand upon this I will continue with the theme of positive and negative space, most likely experimenting with turning positive space into negative space.
